Punjab Ombudsperson Pushes for Stronger Anti-Harassment Measures in Faisalabad; GCWUF Hosts Wellness Seminar on Natural Products

Nabila Hakim Khan calls for visible awareness and training to curb harassment in institutions; GCWUF empowers students through research and innovation in natural wellness.

FAISALABAD: Punjab Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment, Nabila Hakim Khan, conducted key visits to Allied Hospital and the CEO Education Office Faisalabad to assess the effectiveness of anti-harassment committees in public institutions. Her visit aimed to enforce strict compliance with the Protection Against Harassment Act and promote a safer work environment, especially for women in the education and health sectors.

Khan stressed the urgent need to increase awareness around anti-harassment laws. She directed that every government office must prominently display banners and panaflexes outlining the law and code of conduct. At the Faisalabad regional office, she personally reviewed complaints filed against the Higher Education Department and Allied Hospital, emphasizing the importance of responsiveness and transparency.

She also demanded a comprehensive report detailing harassment cases registered with the Allied Hospital’s anti-harassment committee over the past three years. In a proactive move, she announced that specialized training sessions would soon be launched across the Faisalabad division to build the capacity of anti-harassment committees.

Furthermore, she instructed that focal persons be appointed in every government department to handle harassment-related issues more efficiently. “Combating sexual harassment, especially in hospitals and educational institutions, requires a collective campaign and inter-departmental coordination,” she said.

Reiterating her commitment to women’s safety, Khan called on the media to actively support awareness efforts. “Creating safe workplaces is not just policy—it’s a priority. The media must help amplify these laws and ensure they are not ignored,” she asserted.

GCWUF Focuses on Wellness Through Natural Innovation

In another significant event in Faisalabad, the Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) organized a thought-provoking seminar titled “Integrating Natural Products and Nutraceuticals for Wellness.” The seminar brought together students, researchers, and national experts to discuss wellness solutions through natural products.

The event featured a student-led exhibition showcasing herbal and nutraceutical innovations. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen, inaugurated the display and lauded the creativity and scientific engagement of the participants.

In her keynote address, Prof Ameen emphasized the importance of incorporating traditional natural products into modern healthcare systems. “We need a preventive and holistic approach to health—something that natural and herbal products can provide,” she said.

She encouraged stronger collaborations between academia and industry through platforms like ORIC and BIC to help students commercialize their ideas and launch startups. “Your research should not sit on shelves—it should move into markets and improve lives,” she told students.

The technical sessions featured insights from national experts who spoke on trends in the wellness market, sustainable entrepreneurship, and the future of nutraceuticals. Speakers highlighted the untapped potential in Pakistan’s herbal sector and encouraged student involvement in research-driven innovation.

The seminar ended with the distribution of souvenirs and certificates, celebrating the success and enthusiasm of students, faculty, and invited guests alike.

Both events — one focusing on women’s safety and the other on student empowerment — reflect Faisalabad’s progressive steps towards safer, healthier, and more innovative spaces.
