Woman Killed in Karachi, Daughter Injured in “Crossfire” Between Police and Escaping Suspects

On Thursday night, in strange circumstances, a 60-year-old woman driving a car was shot and killed, while her 19-year-old daughter was gravely injured on the National Highway near Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
According to the authorities, after a “encounter,” the family was shot by the suspects after becoming caught in the crossfire between the police and the fleeing group.
The family members refuted this account, accusing the police of shooting the family car because they “thought they were dacoits.”
According to Steel Town police, a patrolling police party was notified by a resident that there were suspects in a white Corolla. Additionally, the person told the police that the “Corolla gang” would plundered people as they were leaving banks.
A grieving family claims that police opened fire on the victims’ car because they thought they were “dacoits,” sparking controversy.
After learning of the suspects’ use of firearms, the police pursued them. As a result, the police stated, the offenders’ firing caused injuries to members of a family who were riding in a private vehicle.
Upon arriving at a neighboring hospital, one of the injured women was declared dead. The other two were transferred there right away.
According to the authorities, the suspects opened fire on them while brandishing highly advanced weaponry.
While raids were being carried out on intelligence information, the Steel Town police SHO was heading a police squad in neighboring localities in search of the “Corolla gang.”
Other police posts along the National Highway and other locations have also been notified by the authorities.
A representative for the Edhi Foundation named the dead as 60-year-old Sara Ibrahim and her injured daughter as 19-year-old Ghanwa Ibrahim.
The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre received both the deceased and the injured.
According to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, the mother was taken to the hospital dead. The teenager’s injuries, according to her, are “serious.”
During the firing, no one was hurt in the rickshaw carrying multiple ladies and their children.
The police released CCTV footage of the Corolla, which revealed that they pulled over on National Highway and paid the toll at the Sassui toll plaza.
Mohammed Usman, the victim’s maternal nephew, told the media that they were originated from Keti Bandar in Thatta, refuting the police’s account.
The family was receiving medical care at a hospital in Karachi. At Gulshan-i-Hadeed Mor, officers opened fire on the family’s automobile as they were returning.
According to the relative, the cops opened fire on the automobile without making any attempt to halt it or give them any indication to do so.
He disagreed with the official account, which claimed the family was shot by the suspects after becoming trapped in the crossfire.
Additionally, the relative said that the police were attempting to “destroy evidences now.”
Witnesses claimed that the suspects’ vehicle was passing the victims’ vehicle first. The family’s vehicle appeared to have been struck from behind in the photos that were posted on social media.
Zia Lanjar, the home minister for Sindh, took notice of the occurrence and requested an instant and thorough report from SSP Malir. He declared in a statement that “those involved in the tragic incident” would not be spared by the administration.
“To identify those who are behind the incident, the police have been asked to use all available resources, including the latest technology,” he continued.
