Punjab Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Violence Against Women on International Day
CM Maryam Nawaz vows stronger protection measures, tech-driven safety tools, and collective responsibility to make Punjab safest for women.

Punjab marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with a strong message from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who emphasized that women deserve respect in every circumstance and that any form of violence or harassment is unacceptable. She stated that the provincial government is fully committed to making Punjab the safest province in the country for women and girls.
In her message, the Chief Minister highlighted the provincial government’s recent initiatives, describing them as crucial steps toward real safety and empowerment. The Virtual Women Police Station, Panic Button, and dedicated Helpline were cited as game-changing tools designed to offer immediate support to women in distress. She added that the Crime Control Department (CCD) is actively monitoring and acting against individuals involved in harassment, ensuring fast and effective action.
The CM also raised concerns about the increasing harassment women face on social media, stressing the need for tighter measures and digital safety frameworks. She said that protecting women online is now as important as protecting them on the streets, urging swift policy and enforcement actions to address hate speech, cyberstalking, and online abuse.
Maryam Nawaz underlined that a society free from violence is essential for progress. She stated that those who commit violence against women are not only criminals but cowards, and they will be dealt with strict, uncompromising action. Through technology-enabled policing and stronger legal measures, the government aims to create an environment where women feel protected at all times.
She noted that safety and empowerment go hand in hand. Girls and women can only thrive when they feel secure, and education and mobility become accessible without fear. The Chief Minister added that strong public awareness is vital to changing mindsets and discouraging harmful behaviours that contribute to gender-based violence.
The CM urged every segment of society families, communities, institutions, and digital platforms to take part in ending violence and harassment permanently. She reminded that responsibility does not lie with the government alone; it is a collective duty. Only through shared effort, awareness, and accountability can society ensure that daughters grow up, study, and build their futures without fear.
Maryam Nawaz reiterated that Punjab’s commitment to protecting women’s rights is unwavering. The province is actively implementing policies that prioritise women’s safety, justice, and dignity. The strengthened role of the Virtual Women Police Station, helpline accessibility, rapid crime response, and focus on online safety reflect a broader strategy aimed at long-term transformation.
Her message concluded with a call for unity: creating a safer Punjab for women is not just an initiative — it is a promise. A society that protects its women protects its future.
