Women Constables Appointed as Moharrars in Mansehra: A Step Towards Gender-Sensitive Policing

Empowering Women in Policing: Mansehra Appoints Women Moharrars, Supports Martyrs’ Families, Tackles Cybercrime, and Ensures Safety with Progressive Reforms and Community-Centric Initiatives.

The Mansehra police have taken a groundbreaking step by appointing women constables as moharrars in nine of the district’s 17 police stations. This progressive move aims to create a more accessible and safe environment for women to report crimes, especially those of a sensitive nature.

A Milestone in Gender-Sensitive Policing

The initiative, spearheaded by District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Khan Gandapur, is part of a broader strategy to modernize policing and address gender-based violence effectively. The DPO emphasized that the presence of women moharrars would enable female complainants to lodge complaints freely and without hesitation.

The move addresses a critical barrier in law enforcement: the reluctance of women to report crimes, including cybercrimes and domestic violence, due to societal norms and the lack of female representation in police stations.

Future Plans for Full Implementation

DPO Gandapur announced that the remaining police stations in the district would also receive women moharrars soon, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the region. Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to provide full support to the newly posted women moharrars, enabling them to perform their duties effectively.

Supporting Families of Fallen Police Officers

In another commendable initiative, the police appointed Saif Sajid and Mubashar Khan as sub-inspectors under the employment quota for the children of martyred officials. Their fathers, Sajid Khan and Chanzeb, lost their lives in anti-terrorism operations.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police for Hazara Region, Nasir Mehmood Satti, and Provincial Police Chief Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur increased the employment quota for the families of martyrs from 5% to 12.5%, ensuring more support for those who have sacrificed for the nation.

Cattle Pen Fire Claims Animal Lives

In an unrelated incident, a fire broke out in a cattle pen in the Kalgan Morr area, killing five cows and six goats. The fire, reportedly caused by an open flame lit to keep the area warm, highlights the dangers of unsafe heating practices. Rescue 1122 officials have repeatedly cautioned against such practices, especially during the colder months when fire-related incidents spike.

Political Developments in Mansehra

On a political front, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) divisional president Hazara Malik Mohammad Farooq dismissed the party’s district president and general secretary in Mansehra. The reasons for their removal remain undisclosed, marking a shift in local political dynamics.
