Pakistan’s SP Ayesha Butt Wins Global Women Police Excellence Award

SP Ayesha Butt receives IAWP's ‘Excellence in Performance Award 2025’—a global honor celebrating her outstanding service in policing.

In a proud moment for Pakistan, SP Ayesha Butt of the Punjab Police has been honored with the prestigious ‘Excellence in Performance Award 2025’ by the International Association of Women Police (IAWP). The announcement was made public on Wednesday, with Punjab Police hailing her achievement as a landmark moment not just for the department but for the entire nation.

The IAWP, which represents over 70 countries and 30 affiliate organizations, aims to strengthen and empower women in law enforcement through training, mentoring, and global collaboration. This award is one of the most competitive and recognized honors in the field of international policing.

Ayesha Butt, currently serving as City Traffic Officer in Gujranwala at the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP), was chosen from a pool of exceptional nominees across the world. In a formal letter addressed to her, IAWP President Julia Jaeger acknowledged Butt’s distinguished service and commitment to policing.

“I am writing to inform you that you are selected to receive the 2025 International Association of Women Police Excellence in Performance Award,” Jaeger wrote. “The IAWP is proud to honor your distinguished service and commitment to policing… Congratulations on receiving this highly competitive global recognition.”

The award will be formally presented at the IAWP’s 62nd Annual Conference, scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2025. The organization expressed hope that Butt will attend the ceremony in person to receive her award.

Punjab Police issued an official statement celebrating the honor, with Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar personally congratulating SP Butt. “SP Ayesha Butt’s success is a source of pride for all police officers, especially women officers,” he said. “She has not only elevated the name of Punjab Police but has become a role model for aspiring women in uniform.”

Butt’s recognition is especially significant in the context of Pakistan, where women in law enforcement often face societal challenges and limited family support. Her rise through the ranks and international acknowledgment sends a strong message of encouragement to women pursuing careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Ayesha Butt has long been recognized for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to community-focused policing. Her work in managing traffic systems in Gujranwala, a bustling city in eastern Pakistan, has been lauded for bringing discipline and innovation to public safety.

This award from IAWP is more than a personal accolade—it highlights Pakistan’s growing recognition on the global stage for progressive policing and gender inclusion. It reinforces the value of investing in women’s leadership within law enforcement.

As the country continues to work toward gender equality in all sectors, Ayesha Butt’s achievement is a milestone worth celebrating. Her success story stands as a beacon of inspiration for young girls across Pakistan who dream of wearing the uniform and serving their nation with honor.
