Hania Aamir Appointed UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan

The actor will leverage her social media influence to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality across Pakistan.

Hania Aamir, celebrated for her compelling acting performances and relatable social media presence, has been named the new national goodwill ambassador for UN Women, the organisation announced on Instagram on Wednesday. In this role, Aamir will use her platform to raise awareness, inspire action, and amplify the voices of women and girls across Pakistan, supporting initiatives aimed at ensuring that every woman and girl can realise her full potential free from violence, discrimination, and inequality.

Aamir joins a distinguished list of goodwill ambassadors from South Asia, including activist Muniba Mazari, Indian actor Farhan Akhtar, and Indian tennis star Sania Mirza. Internationally, UN Women’s ambassadors include high-profile figures such as Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, and Anne Hathaway. She becomes the second Pakistani to receive this honour after Muniba Mazari, who was appointed in 2015. Other national goodwill ambassadors for UN agencies in Pakistan include Fawad Khan for the UN Development Programme, Mahira Khan for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Shehzad Roy for the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and Saba Qamar for UNICEF.

UN Women, the United Nations entity dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women, has been actively working to improve the lives of Pakistani women, particularly in times of crisis. In response to this year’s devastating floods, the organisation established Women Safe Spaces in affected areas, offering counselling, legal advice, and in-house childcare services to support local women.

With her strong social media presence and large youth following, Hania Aamir is expected to bring renewed attention to UN Women’s initiatives across Pakistan. Her platform will help engage young girls and women nationwide, increasing awareness and participation in efforts to promote gender equality, safeguard rights, and create opportunities for women to thrive in all aspects of life.

Aamir’s appointment underscores the growing importance of leveraging popular figures to connect with wider audiences, inspire action, and advocate for systemic change. Through campaigns, awareness programs, and public engagement, she will work alongside UN Women to strengthen initiatives that protect women’s rights, empower them economically and socially, and encourage active participation in shaping Pakistan’s future.

By combining her influence with UN Women’s outreach and resources, Hania Aamir is set to play a pivotal role in advancing gender equality in Pakistan. Her involvement reflects a commitment to ensuring that women and girls have access to education, safety, and opportunities, ultimately contributing to a society where every individual can thrive without fear of discrimination or inequality.
