Pakistan Women Face Crucial Challenge in ICC World Cup Qualifier 2025 at Home
Pakistan to battle West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland in Lahore for ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 qualification as top two teams from six-nation event will progress to the final.

Pakistan women’s cricket team faces a formidable challenge to qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, as they prepare to host the six-nation World Cup Qualifier tournament in Lahore from April 9 to 19. Only the top two teams from the competition will secure their place in the final stage of the World Cup, which is set to be hosted by India later this year.
Joining Pakistan in the Qualifier are strong contenders West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland, alongside Associate Members Scotland and Thailand. The matches will be played at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium and the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) ground.
Pakistan will open their campaign on April 9 against Ireland at Gaddafi Stadium, while West Indies face Scotland at LCCA the same day. The 15-match league format ensures that each game will be crucial, with qualification spots on the line and no room for error.
This tournament marks the sixth edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, and it carries immense pressure for the participating nations. Full Members Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and West Indies finished seventh to tenth in the ICC Women’s Championship (2022-25), pushing them into the Qualifier. Thailand and Scotland earned their places based on ODI rankings as of October 28, 2024.
Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and hosts India have already secured their World Cup spots by finishing in the top six of the ICC Women’s Championship standings.
Some of the highly anticipated matches in this Qualifier include a subcontinental clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh on April 19 at LCCA, Pakistan’s critical day-night fixture against West Indies on April 14 at Gaddafi Stadium, and Bangladesh’s face-off against West Indies on April 17 at LCCA.
ICC CEO Geoff Allardice highlighted the significance of this tournament, stating, “The six competing teams are just one step away from the Women’s Cricket World Cup and I am sure they will all be eagerly looking forward to the competition. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to wish the teams all the best for the tournament in Lahore.”
With a World Cup berth at stake and home advantage in their favour, Pakistan’s women’s team will aim to put up a strong performance in front of their fans. The stage is set for a thrilling contest as all six teams battle for the coveted qualification spots.
