An International Virtual Seminar held to discuss the Palestine-Israel Conflict and Global Media Framing. The seminar was attended by more than 300 scholars from Pakistan, Palestine, the USA, UK, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Macedonia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Jordan, Egypt, Bangladesh, and other countries.
The virtual Seminar was organized b University Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore, Pakistan. The webinar was hosted by Dr. Mohsin Hassan Khan, Professor, School of Media and Communication Studies.
Distinguished speakers; Dr. Wesam Amer from Gaza University Palestine, Prof. Madya Dr Surinderpal Kaur from University of Malaya Malaysia, Dr Haiyun Ma from Frostburg State University USA, Prof. Dr Zafar Iqbal from International Islamic University Islamabad Pakistan, Mr. Ridlo Eisy, a senior journalist from Indonesia and Ms. Sophia Siddiui, a journalist and social activist from Pakistan have delivered their knowledgeable insights full of rich information on the topic and opened the doors for the scholars for further research.
Senior Educationist from Dr. Abid HK Hashwani on the occasion said, Israel’s actions in Gaza is an act of terrorism and we condemned this act. Prof. Abid Sherwani further said that the Western media has adopted a double standard regarding the Palestinians to which the Pakistani and Arab media are giving the best response.
Renowned academicians and scholars have strongly criticized Israel’s blatant human rights abuses in Palestine and termed that all Western media outlets are now working hard to silence the voices of oppressed Palestinians.
Addressing the webinar, Dr. Wissam Amir, Dean, Faculty of Communication, Gaza University, elaborated current situation in Gaza and the loss of innocent lives and properties by Israel’s attacks in the Gaza strip in which more than two hundred and fifty Palestinians have been martyred, including 66 children and 39 women.
On this occasion, Dr. Zafar Iqbal from International Islamic University shed light on the role of electronic, print, and social media. He criticizes the silence of Western media and termed it ridiculous. He said all international forums including the UN, UNSC, EU, and others are silent on the issue.
A journalist from Pakistan, Ms. Sophia Siddiqui presented how western media is coving the issue of Palestine. In her presentation, she also gave content analyses of news stories of big media outlets. She presented how CNN, Reuters, BBC, AFP, Aljazeera, AP, Dawn, and AP are changing their facts through their framing and words.
