New Report Uncovers Widespread Sexual Violence Against Christian Women in Pakistan

Investigation by Franciscan Friar Fr Lazar Aslam highlights urgent need for protection and justice for a vulnerable minority community.

ISLAMABAD: A recent investigation, spearheaded by Franciscan friar Fr Lazar Aslam, has brought to light alarming instances of sexual violence targeting Christian women and girls across Pakistan. The detailed report, submitted to the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), presents a series of deeply disturbing case studies that underscore the extreme vulnerability faced by the country’s minority Christian community.

The report, drawing attention to a critical human rights issue, documents multiple harrowing accounts. Among these is the case of Asma, a 20-year-old woman, who was reportedly lured into a car by an acquaintance on May 3, 2025. She was then taken to a house where she was allegedly raped by four men. The perpetrators are said to have filmed the assault, using the footage to threaten Asma into complying with further demands. Following this traumatic incident, Asma and her family have reportedly endured continuous intimidation and threats. Local police investigations into the matter have shown little progress, as per the report.

Another tragic case detailed is that of 17-year-old Samiya from Lahore. On February 14, 2025, Samiya’s mother discovered her deceased in the flat where Samiya was employed as a cleaner. While the flat’s owners asserted that Samiya had taken her own life, a subsequent medical investigation revealed a far more sinister truth: Samiya had been gang-raped before being murdered. Three months after her death, Samiya’s family continues their agonizing wait for justice.

The report further recounts the terrifying ordeal of Shumaila. On March 25, 2025, while traveling with her husband, they were reportedly intercepted and robbed by three armed men. Upon realizing the couple were Christian, the assailants allegedly proceeded to rape Shumaila in front of her husband, severely beating him in the process.

Father Aslam’s report concludes with an urgent and fervent appeal for immediate action. He calls for robust support for survivors of such violence and for the protection of vulnerable Christian families in Pakistan. “We demand justice for the victim family and call upon the state to provide safety and security to the family, who are poor and minority, while the culprits are powerful and have already issued threats,” Father Aslam wrote in his plea.

These findings highlight the severe dangers and systemic vulnerabilities faced by Christian women within Pakistan. The report underscores a critical and urgent need for stronger protective measures, improved and more responsive law enforcement actions, and enhanced support mechanisms for survivors of sexual violence within the country’s minority communities.
