Turkmenistan Organized International Cooperation for Peace and Development

International Conference titled “and International organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development”, was held to dedicate to the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan being celebrate this year.

The objective of the event is “Turkmenistan is the Homeland of Neutrality”, which was held on Ashgabat on January 14, 2020 under the Chairmanship of the President Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The president called for closer multilateral cooperation in the modern world to address the goals and principles embodied in the UN Charter, strengthen the international peace and security and ensure the economic, environmental, social and humanitarian development, Emphasizing the significance to implement the global strategies and programmes of the United Nations, in particular the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The president emphasized that the implementation of the policy of neutrality, contributes to the strengthening the international and regional stability.

Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the Turkmenistan efforts for peace and stability. He announced that an international high-level conference will be held on December 12, 2020 at Ashgaba with theme “The policy of neutrality and its importance in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development”.

Welcoming the invitation of the UN Secretary-General to participate in the
biggest-ever global conversation on the role of global cooperation in building the future to mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Organization, he said, we appeal to the Secretary-General of the United Nations: To continue providing the comprehensive support to the cooperation of the United Nations with neutral states in order to make greater use of the principles of neutrality and preventive diplomacy in ensuring international security and sustainable development.

In the framework of the Conference, the Annual Action Plans for 2020 were signed between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and UNICEF, between the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and UNICEF, between the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Turkmenistan and UNICEF, between the State Committee for Statistics and UNFPA, between the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan and UNICEF, between the Office of Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan and UNICEF, between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and UNFPA, Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and UNFPA, between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and UNFPA, between the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan and UNFPA, as well as the Annual Joint Action Plan for 2020 in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Representation of the United Nations on cooperation in coordination of preparedness and response to emergency.    

The work of the International Conference “Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development” will continue in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in the format of plenary sessions
