Women in Tank Protest Against Excessive Power Outages Amidst Growing Energy Crisis
Women in traditional shuttlecock burqas lead a rare public demonstration to demand relief from relentless loadshedding.

In Tank, a city grappling with a severe energy crisis, women took to the streets on Friday to express their frustration over the worsening electric loadshedding. Dressed in traditional shuttlecock burqas, they participated in a rare but powerful public demonstration, demanding relief from the 20+ hours of daily power outages that have crippled daily life.
A City in Desperation
The prolonged loadsheding has paralyzed the city, pushing residents to the brink of desperation. With the scorching heat and no electricity, locals are struggling to manage basic tasks. Women are particularly affected, facing immense challenges in handling household chores, while businesses have been brought to a near standstill.
Many residents have called the situation “cruel and inhumane,” blaming Pesco for what they describe as “gross negligence” and mismanagement. The unannounced power outages have become unbearable, and the people of Tank are demanding immediate action.
A Rare Public Demonstration
For the first time in years, women and children joined men in the streets of Tank to protest, marking a historic shift in a city that rarely sees such public demonstrations. Leading the charge were Sanam Gul Tator, a local social worker, and Fazal Kareem Tator, district president of the Awami National Party. The demonstration saw a significant turnout, with dozens of frustrated and angry residents chanting slogans against the authorities and demanding an end to the power crisis.
Call for Immediate Action
The protesters have made it clear: if the situation does not improve soon, they will escalate their efforts with sit-ins and large-scale demonstrations across the region. Their message is simple: action is needed now to reduce the hours of loadshedding and restore some semblance of normalcy to their lives.
As the power crisis continues to worsen, the protests in Tank highlight the urgent need for immediate government intervention to resolve the electricity shortage that has left residents suffering.
