Jay-Z Sues Woman for Defamation After She Drops Rape Lawsuit
Rapper claims false accusations were part of an extortion plot, seeks damages for reputation and business losses

Jay-Z has filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman who previously accused him of rape but later withdrew her claims. The rapper alleges the accusations were part of an “evil conspiracy” to extort money and damage his reputation.
The lawsuit, filed in an Alabama federal court, also names attorneys Tony Buzbee and David Fortney, accusing them of coercing the woman into making false allegations. Jay-Z’s legal team claims she admitted being pressured into fabricating the story to strengthen a case against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The woman had initially filed her lawsuit in October 2023, refiled it in December, and then dropped it in February 2024. She alleged both Jay-Z and Combs raped her at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13. Both men denied the claims.
Jay-Z’s lawsuit highlights inconsistencies in the accuser’s story, including a false claim about a celebrity’s presence at the event and contradictions from her father. It also states her lawyers failed to vet her allegations, despite her history of mental health issues and prior assault charges.
The legal action claims Jay-Z’s business suffered losses of about $20 million per year due to the accusations. He also cites emotional distress, particularly the impact on his family.
Meanwhile, Mr. Buzbee denies wrongdoing, stating Jay-Z’s investigators “harassed and threatened” the woman to force a retraction. He insists she stands by her claims.
With Jay-Z seeking legal redress for the alleged defamation, this high-profile case underscores the serious consequences of false accusations and legal malpractice.
