Palestinian humanitarian team arrive in Pakistan for relief work

On the special directives of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas a special humanitarian and relief mission has arrived in Pakistan on Saturday to take part in relief activities at devastating floods affected areas.

Ambassador of Palestine in Pakistan, Ahmed Rabei at a Press Conference in Islamabad briefed about the humanitarian team and their activities.

He said a team consisting of 27 members including doctors, Red Crescent and the Civil Defense arrived in Pakistan. Imad M. Zuhairi, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for IR/ PICA Director General is leading the team, which is scheduled to stay in Pakistan for eight days. The team shall be taking care of the humanitarian and relief operations in Dera Ismael Khan.

The Ambassador of Palestine also informed about objectives and mandate of the Palestine relief team. He said “hearts of people of Palestine and Pakistan throbbed together” Tons of humanitarian goods had already been dispatched to the areas of Swat and Sindh. Ambassador Rabei said, “Pakistan despite its economic and other challenges always whole-heartedly supported Palestine”.  He said the people of Palestine are standing shoulder to shoulder at this time.

Telling about the campaign In loyalty to Pakistan… Jerusalem with you”  he said, the campaign was launched by the Palestinian Presidency last month for victims of Pakistan’s floods.

Medicine and dry food arrived from Palestine

Imad M. Zuhairi, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion said that in this first phase of  mission, the teams will take part in  relief and humanitarian work added in 2nd phase another team will arrive soon to take part in the developmental and rehabilitation process. .

Javed Ahmed Umrani, Additional Secretary (ME) Ministry of Foreign Affairs speaking on the occasion thanked Palestine government and people for extending this generous support at a critical juncture. He said Pakistan always supported Palestine in its struggle for a separate homeland.

The Spokesperson MOFA has also appreciated the rescue team from Palestine in a tweet.
