Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed on Monday said that Memorandum of understanding (MoUs) were signed with different organizations to operate 48 fire tenders and two bowsers provided by the federal government to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
“These organizations would set up 14 fire stations and would rescue in any untoward situation,” the Administrator passed these remarks while talking to media after reviewing encroachment removal operations held earlier at Shahab uddin market.
Ahmed said that the KMC was provided fire tenders and two bowzers, asking the Sindh government to permit new hirings in Fire Brigade department as they will be needing young blood to operate these tenders and bowzers.
The Administrator said that 24 fire tenders and two bowzers would be operated by KMC, while Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry, Site Association of Industry, Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry, Site Super Highway Association of Industry, Landhi Association of Trade and Industry, Export Processing Zone Authority, Bin Qasim Industry Park, Sailani Welfare Trust and Pakistan Rangers Sindh would have two fire tenders each.
Similarly, Korangi Crack Industrial Park and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to have one fire tenders each. The Administrator said that drivers and staffers on all the fire tenders would be of KMC while these organizations would take care of these machineries.
It is a public-private partnership program aimed at making the fire rescue service more effective.
Ahmed said that they are taking measures to ensure that fire tenders could avail water or other fire extinguishing material from the nearest place.
He hoped that after the induction of modern machinery, response time would be decreased. He said that the staffers would also be provided a new uniform.
“Firefighters are our heroes as they are ready to serve the masses around the clock. Issues of firefighters would be resolved on a priority basis,” he added.
The Administrator said that Karachi is a big city and KMC is taking measures to uplift its fire brigade fleet as per the requirement of the city.
