Govt says no truth in reports of increase in electricity tariff

There is no truth in reports of increase in electricity tariff. No such decision is under consideration.

According to a statement of Ministry of energy, Power Ministry runs various simulations in its efforts to reduce circular debt. Such simulations consider a wide range of options, but this doesn’t mean that every option will result in tariff increase.

Reports that revenue collection has decreased to 83% are baseless. This figure is only for the month of September where consumers were given relief in fuel price adjustment and late payments due to floods in one-third of Pakistan.

Cumulative collection from July to November is 91%. For the month of November collection was 98% against computed billing.

Contrary to the impression given by media reports, transmission and distribution losses have improved over the last four months, witnessing a reduction from 20% in July to 11% in October.
