Pakistan Girl Guides Association with 16 days of activism against gender based violence

Pakistan Girl Guides Association National Headquarters organized a session regarding 16 days of activism against gender based violence in collaboration with Human Development Foundation (HDF) on 6th December, 2019. Guides around the world celebrate 16 days of Activism every year.
Focus of this year is “harassment of girls and women in the streets”.

Safe Streets for girls and women and Laws regarding harassment at workplace were part of the session.
Executive Director Human Development Foundation Mr. Saeed-ul-Hassan and Mrs. Uzma Shahid from Pakistan Girl Guides Association facilitated the session.
Around the world governments are beginning to recognize that the harassment of girls and women in the streets is a crime that perpetrators should be prosecuted for. Girls and women cannot feel safe in a culture where impunity thrives and perpetrators are not held accountable for their actions. Laws are not enough. Educating the men and boys regarding this is a must. They must understand that they do not have the right to harass anyone. Girls and women have as much right to move through the streets as boys and men, free from harm and danger.
Laws of Harassment at workplace in Pakistan were discussed in detail during the session.
At the end participants demanded that “No girl or woman should feel unsafe or experience harassment in the streets; after all, these are our streets too”.
