Chief Justice Bandial take Suo Moto notice of brutal killing of Arshad Sharif
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial has taken Suo Moto notice of the brutal killing of journalist, Mr. Arshad Sharif.
The journalist community in the country and the public at large are deeply distressed and are concerned about the death of the senior journalist and are seeking the court’s scrutiny of the matter.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan has issued notice to Secretary Interior, Secretary Foreign Affairs, Secretary Information and Broadcasting, DG (FIA), DG (IB) and President PFUJ and has fixed the matter today, on 6th December, 2022 at 12:30pm before a five member larger bench to be headed by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Earler this week, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.
The PFUJ has penned a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, urging the apex court to take suo motu action and form a judicial commission under the supervision of a sitting judge in the murder case.
The journalist body also appealed to CJP to provide justice to Arshad Sharif’s family and journalist body by conducting a transparent inquiry into the case.
Earlier, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) rejected the inquiry commission proposed by the government to investigate the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.
